I found a backing track and sang to it through my usual Røde NT1-A microphone and recording with Logic Pro X. The backing track is a bit ropey – certainly compared to the Fleetwood Mac original – but it just about carries the song. The Røde really came into its own as a fantastic microphone, for example picking up my breath intakes. In replacement of the over-effected vocal originally used, for this version I really only added a touch of reverb and eq, and retrained compression. Mastering was restrained, too.
The video was shot in my flat in Erith and driving across Crayford marshes. I tried to capture a desolate desperate atmosphere (the song is in memory of my mother, who died in July) and the effects in Final Cut Pro hopefully allowed me to do this.
